It’s estimated that somewhere between 70-80% of women struggle with nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Most of the time, the symptoms are limited to the first trimester – and somewhere around 13 or 14 weeks it’ll start to lift. Unfortunately, a small percentage of women have prolonged symptoms that can last until delivery. If the symptoms are severe, a woman will be diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), a different pathology that can lead to pregnancy complications if left untreated.
In all cases, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is unpleasant. Symptoms range from feeling queasy and noticing decreased appetite to experiencing intense vomiting with dehydration. There are several theories as to why nausea and vomiting occur, and most women try several interventions before they find one that works for them. Peppermint tea, ginger candies, sea bands, acupuncture, frequent small meals, and vitamin B6 are safe, natural, and can help to relieve some of the queasiness for most women. At Acubalance, we have an even better solution: The Quease-Ease Nutrient IV.
Lovingly referred to as the ‘barf bag’ by our staff, the Quease-Ease Nutrient IV is a safe, low dose combination of nutrients in a hydrating bag of saline that I recommend to help relieve the symptoms of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. The formula can be administered as frequently as once per week throughout the entire pregnancy. It takes between 45-60 minutes to administer, and is safe for almost all pregnant women – contraindications include kidney failure and severe hypertension, but I screen all potential IV patients before I treat so you’re always in good hands.
Patients who have tried the Quease-Ease bag report feeling less nauseous by the time the drip is finished, and it typically suppresses nausea for 3-7 days depending on how severe your symptoms have been.
The Quease-Ease bag has also helped some of our patients with leg cramps, migraines, and insomnia during pregnancy. If you’re pregnant and struggling, the Quease-Ease IV might be your new best friend.
