At Acubalance, we practice proactive health care to assist you in achieving optimal health. We’re always striving to be on the cutting-edge of the latest in natural medicine, and one of these therapies that we use is nutritional IV therapy.
You may have heard of nutritional IV therapy before (the classic Myer’s cocktail for example), where a doctor infuses vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants directly into the bloodstream. At Acubalance, we tailor our nutrient combinations specifically for the patient and his/her needs and our patients notice tremendous benefits.
IVs are used at Acubalance in two ways - to enhance overall wellbeing as well as to address specific health concerns. We use nutritional IVs for many different reasons, some of which are outlined below.
First, a quick description of what nutritional IV therapy is, and why you may benefit:
Nutritional IV Therapy safely delivers key vitamins and essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream through a very well-tolerated intravenous drip. At Acubalance, we use pediatric-grade butterfly and catheter needles, to make the process as comfortable as possible! Most patients barely notice the drip as it’s happening.
One of the biggest advantages to getting your nutrients this way is that we bypass the digestive system – allowing a much higher level of nutrition to be delivered to your cells. The nutrients we infuse can then kick-start cells that aren’t performing the way they should to help bring you to a state of optimal health.
In the comfort of our upstairs clinic during a private session, or lounging with others in our TG'IV clinic in the Acubalance Studio, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants are administered while you read, listen to music, or simply rest.
Private IVs are available from Monday-Thursday upstairs at Acubalance Suite #250. Group IV therapy is available Friday afternoons from 12:30pm-4pm in the Acubalance Studio Suite #120, and starting this week, also on Thursday mornings from 7am-9am in the Studio Suite #120!
All of our nutritional IV protocols have been thoroughly researched and have tremendous noticeable benefits for our patients. Nutrients are combined in a customized, intentional way, to support your body and its unique needs. Our favourite approach is to utilize the results of a comprehensive nutritional panel lab to tailor the ingredients in your IV ‘cocktail’ specifically to what your cells are lacking.
A few successes we’ve noticed in the clinic with nutritional IVs follow:
-improvement of egg quality on subsequent IVF cycles: we have many patients in the practice whose CCS (genetic testing) results have improved following customized IV therapy. In one memorable case, a previous IVF resulted in 5/5 aneuploid (genetically abnormal) embryos that would not result in a healthy baby. After 3 months of IV therapy along with acupuncture and herbal support, the patient received much better news on her CCS testing - 4/5 of her tested embryos the next IVF cycle were euploid (genetically normal).
-assistance in fighting colds and flues: from the common cold to walking pneumonia, our patients suffering from acute viral infections recover faster and have less severe symptoms when receiving custom IV drips. Often, within 2-3 treatments, the sick-symptoms resolve and always, patients feel boosted after their drip. We find that it’s best to catch the early stages of a viral illness with an IV drip, so as soon as you feel that tickle in your throat, book your nutritional IV.
-easy weaning off of anti-depressant medications: when you’ve been taking an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication for months or even years, it can feel scary to think about coming off of them. Several patients at Acubalance have found the weaning process to be manageable and even enjoyable when we use nutritional IVs through the weaning phase. By providing necessary amino acids and cofactor nutrients, we assist the body in its production of serotonin, dopamine, GABA and other mood balancing neurotransmitters, so as the dose of medication drops, symptoms don’t recur.
-improvement of semen analysis: sperm are incredibly responsive to antioxidant therapy! We don’t just use nutritional IVs for women trying to conceive – many of our male patients have noticed success on subsequent semen analyses when they do a course of nutritional IVs between tests.
-enhanced physical recovery: post-surgery or after a physically demanding event (ie. triathalon, marathon or other athletic event), many patients drop in for a nutritional IV the day after, and perhaps once more during week that follows. Delivering therapeutic doses of amino acids and vitamins to the tissues at this vulnerable time speeds healing and recovery, supporting immune function and regulating the inflammatory response. The difference in recovery is game-changing for high-level athletes!
-better stamina, focus and work performance: some of our patients use nutritional IVs on a biweekly or monthly basis to improve energy levels, focus, concentration and mental and physical stamina. After getting their boost, patients report improved performance at work, better moods, and their ability to focus for longer periods of time is enhanced. Some come for IVs before big events – a work conference or major exam, for example – and others receive IVs once every 2-4 weeks to keep the flow going.
We’re updating our nutritional IV menu, so check back soon to see what we’re currently offering. If you have any questions about how nutritional IV may benefit you, feel free to schedule a free 15-minute consult with me! I’m always happy to chat with patients about what to expect with nutritional IV therapy.
See you soon in the IV lounge!
